Craniosacral Therapy

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a non-manipulative, non-invasive, extremely gentle and powerful whole body therapy.

The client lies or sits fully clothed on a therapy table while experiencing the light touch of the practitioner's hands, often on the head, spine or sacrum, but possibly on other parts of the body.
The practitioner creates a still, safe, space and 'listens' via the hands as the client's body tells it's story.

U.S. Osteopath Dr. William Sutherland first recognized craniosacral motions and their relevance to health in the early 1900's.
He discovered that every cell in the body expresses a rhythmic movement, craniosacral motion, which is fundamental to life.

At the core of the body the cerebrospinal fluid, which bathes and cushions the brain and spinal cord, expresses this motion in a tide like ebb and flow. All the other tissues and structures of the body follow their own particular pattern.
Although this motion is extremely subtle, a trained Craniosacral Therapist can perceive it through their hands.

This motion is a direct expression of health. When we have physical or emotional stresses, the tissues of the body contract in response, and sometimes the tissues remain contracted. This can then restrict the body's functioning and give rise to health problems, both emotional and physical.

The practitioner gets a sense of what is happening in the body - noticing where there are patterns of resistance and congestion - where the craniosacral rhythm isn't being expressed fully. This is mirrored back to the client's body via the practitioner's hands.
The cells of the client's body then utilize their inherent intelligence to reorganize, release and integrate the tissue's memories and tensions in a gentle, safe way.

The client can experience this in many different ways. It is deeply relaxing and refreshing. They may notice heat, pulsing sensations, tingling, stretching of tissues, heaviness or lightness.

Craniosacral Therapy can help with physical aches and pains, acute and chronic disease, emotional and psychological disturbances. It releases tensions and improves the body's overall health, increasing physical vitality and well-being.
